Animal Control

Responsibilities

The Animal Control Division is responsible for:
  • enforcing all City of San Diego ordinances pertaining to the regulation and possession of all domesticated animals within the City of San Diego
  • remove all injured animals and carcasses from City of San Diego streets and roadways.

Staff
Animal Control is staffed by one full-time Animal Control Officer.

These officers:
  • pick up stray animals
  • often work with detaining vicious animals
  • bathe shelter animals weekly
  • de-flea and deworm animals at the shelter
  • feed and care for animals
